Week 02, 2022

Week two of Cultivate Delight, where we are actively planning our spiritual endeavors this coming week with the goal of a consistent time spent engaging our hearts with Christ in his word, in prayer, in reflection, and in music. Below are some starting points for reflection, and I hope you find them helpful. The goal is to not just rush through these and then get on with your day. Take your time and reflect throughout the week on these items. This week we are focusing on the character and attributes of God. May we take time this week to reflect on his nature and give glory to Him alone!

Question 2: What is God?

God is the creator and sustainer of everyone and everything. He is eternal, infinite, and unchangeable in his power and perfection, goodness and glory, wisdom, justice, and truth. Nothing happens except through him and by his will.

Psalm 86:8–10, 15
There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours. All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name. For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God… But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.

Prayer

Truly there is none like our great God – the Holy One. You are the Creator of all that is seen and unseen. Nothing that exists came into being outside of your determined purposes. All that exists continue through your sustained mercy and grace. You uphold and order every atom in the universe. There is nothing in existence that strays from your will. You are perfect in every way. Immense and unmeasurable. Eternal and everlasting. You are love. Steadfast in your love for me. Faithful in your promises. Merciful and gracious in my life. Open my eyes to see your new mercies each and every morning. May I sing a heartful prayer of thankfulness to you each and every day. Refresh my heart and draw me close to yourself. Wrap your loving arms around me and let me understand your love for me. Let me see Jesus!

Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise

Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessèd, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, thy great Name we praise.

Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might;
Thy justice like mountains high soaring above
Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.

To all life thou givest—to both great and small;
In all life thou livest, the true life of all;
We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
And wither and perish—but nought changeth thee.

Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
Thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight;
All laud we would render: O help us to see
’Tis only the splendour of light hideth thee.

Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessèd, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, thy great Name we praise.
