Faithful Obedience

Journal Entry // January 6, 2022

Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him.

Genesis 6:22 ESV

Faithful obedience without hesitation or question. The Bible introduces Noah by telling us that he is righteous and blameless in his generation. God then proceeds to express to Noah his determination to destroy all of life save for his family and pairs of animals. He then assigns to Noah the task of building the ark that will protect his family and those pairs of animals from the coming destruction. After this word from God, this terrifying word of judgement upon the world, the chapter ends by simply revealing that, “Noah did this.”

This is such a humble, righteous response from Noah. To be told in no uncertain terms that all life is going to be destroyed and you and your family will be the only survivors of mankind is an overwhelming burden. Yet, Noah did not question God. He did not argue or run away. He simply did all that God commanded him. Faithful humble obedience.

I need this same response in my heart. When God leads me through the valley or through the thorns or through the desert or wherever he determines, I need this same faithful, humble obedience. It is enough to know that God has placed me here and I am on this path for a purpose. His loving good purpose for my life should always keep my heart faithfully obedient.

Has God called me to walk a difficult path? Amen. So too have countless other beloved followers of Christ. This is the way of righteousness. God calls his beloved to difficult paths and his beloved are to be faithfully obedient. Trusting completely in their perfect loving Father. This is what leads me onward along the path.

Noah simply did all that God commanded. I want and desire this to be the epitaph of my life. I want my life to be one of faithful humble obedience. Content to be in the center of God’s will. Whether life is a peaceful relaxing journey on calm water, or if the storm is raging around me with the wind and waves threatening my little boat. I want to be faithful and obedient, trusting in God alone to save me. To save me and bring me safely home to heaven. To be with him forever.
