Throwing Mountains

Journal Entry // February 28, 2021

Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him.

Mark 11:23 ESV

This sounds so simple. Ask for anything in prayer, without doubt, and it will be done for him. This is one of those passages where it is easy to move from being God centered to man centered. Where the gift is more important than the Giver. Yet Jesus tells us directly that the prayer of a believer whose heart is attuned to the Lord, will receive what he asks.

In my prayer I need this singlemindedness and focus. There is no room for doubt in my prayers before the Lord. There is definitely room for me to come before him lacking understanding and even having doubt that I bring before him. He wants me to be an open book before him. But when I am asking him to act and move, then there should be no doubt.

Why no doubt? Because if I am asking in line with God’s will and for his glory then of course he will act. My motivation is important. This continues to point back to honest humility before the Lord. Coming before him with my head bowed and an understanding of my weakness and his strength.

The Lord wants me to ask. He wants to give good gifts to his child. He wants to bring comfort and peace. He wants me to come to him with earnest heartfelt prayers to my glorious Father. Delighting in the Lord… Committing my ways to the Lord… Being still before the Lord.
