Creator and Heir

December 04, 2025 Thursday

Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.

Hebrews 1:1-2 (ESV)

The incarnation of Jesus is the signifying moment of history being ushered into “these last days.” This is the final epoch of revelation from God being displayed and culminated in the life and death of Jesus Christ, the very Son of God. Whereas he previously spoke and revealed himself through a cloud of mystery, prophecy, signs, and wonders, he has now sent his Son to walk among us. In so doing, the Son of God has truly shown us the Father. For if you have seen and know the Son, then you have seen and know the Father. The incarnation brought the spoken word of God to life. Life in our reality and understanding. This same Jesus, who has come into our life and world to show us the Father, is the same one through whom the world itself was created and to whom the world and all creation are his inheritance. The eternal word of God came into our world and has both manifested and spoken the final Word of God.

Jesus is not just the final prophet or a better interpretation of the prophets, He is the primary and final revelation of all things. All the spoken words through the prophets find their ultimate fulfillment, interpretation, and meaning in the life, death, and resurrection of the Son of God. The Creator and Heir of all things has spoken.

It is through Jesus that I find meaning, purpose, and fulfillment. The Creator and Heir has become manifest and walked among us. The most humble action in all of history was the lowering of the Son of God to be made like us. I take this for granted most of the time. I know it is true, and I will often remind myself of this fact. Yet, I still find it difficult to grasp the full scope of this truth in light of eternity. The spoken word of God, the very word that spoke everything into existence, became a part of creation. Jesus took on flesh and subjected himself to our limitations. He became one of us. He lived among us. He walked among us. He was loved and hated. He was praised and spit upon. He was embraced as a brother and betrayed by a friend. The One and only Son of God came to us to show us the Father in this final and complete revelation. There is no need for another.
