Establish and Guard

But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.

2 Thessalonians 3:3 ESV

But the Lord is faithful… this phrase is a regular occurrence throughout the Bible. It is obviously a phrase that everyone needs to hear on a regular basis. My faith is oftentimes weak and fragile. My heart will lean toward doubt, especially when confronted with adversity, trials, and struggles. When life often appears to be going against me, it is then that I need to hear and be reminded of my faithful God.

Pleasure in Unrighteousness

in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

2 Thessalonians 2:12 ESV

How often do I find myself living as though I do not believe the truth? How often do I neglect the truth of God’s word and find myself seeking the pleasure of unrighteousness? Unfortunately, I think this answer is exceedingly more frequent than I care to admit. My heart oftentimes yearns for the pleasure that is offered by the world, the flesh, and the devil. Even with the truth so readily available to me in God’s word, the weakness of my heart brings foolishness to bear in my life.

Make Worthy

To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power,

2 Thessalonians 1:11 ESV

Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy were always praying that God would make the people at the church of Thessalonica worthy of his calling. They were always praying this together for these followers of Christ. I don’t know how often I actually pray that for myself, let alone my fellow believers. A continual prayer to make me worthy of God’s calling seems daunting to be honest.
